The 2018 China Vertical Marathon Challenge opened on June 9 at the 108-meter and 23-floor SPD Bank Financial Plaza in Changsha, the capital city of Hunan Province.

The event, hosted by the Changsha branch of Shanghai Pudong Development Bank (SPD Bank), consists of three groups: male elite group, men's and women's groups.

A total of 500 runners from across China climbed 628 stairs to reach the rooftop as quickly as possible.

Zeng Wenbo, a competitor from Hunan, claimed the top place in the male elite group in two minutes and 28 seconds.

Hu Zuxing and Zhou Qinglan, who are also from Hunan, won the men's and women's titles with a record of two minutes and 32 seconds and three minutes and 22 seconds.

Vertical marathon, which was originated in the United States in 1978, has been increasingly popular in China in recent years.
