Hunan's gross domestic product (GDP) is expected to grow by around 7.9 percent in the first half of 2018, according to a blue paper issued by the Information Office of the Hunan Provincial People's Government on May 28, Hunan Daily reports.

The blue paper, which is a collection of four books on Hunan's economic and social development, shows that the province's economy has maintained sound and stable development, with continuously optimized structure.

Hunan's GDP growth was 8 percent in the first quarter of 2018, 0.6 percentage points higher than the same period of 2017 and the same as that of 2017, making a good start for the sound growth momentum of this year, said Tang Yuwen, vice director of the Development Research Center at the government.

The main economic indicators show that the province saw faster growth in industrial production, consumption and utilization of foreign capital in the first three months. Its exports retained relatively fast growth and people's livelihoods continued to be improved.
