German engineer Tilman Walterfang donated a total of 38 pieces of ancient ceramic artifacts his salvage company discovered on the wreck of an Arab dhow off the coast of Belitung Island in Indonesia in 1998 to Hunan Provincial Museum on May 16, 2018. The cultural relics, which include 23 from Southeast Asian countries and 15 from China, will be permanently held by the museum. The shipwreck, known as "Batu Hitam" (Black Rock), was blanketed with around 67,000 pieces of objects traded from China during the Tang Dynasty (618-907). More than 56,500 of them were made at the Tongguan Kiln Site, which was known as one of the most famous ancient kilns in China during the period between the Tang Dynasty and Five Dynasties.
