Hunan's foreign trade grows 37.1 pct

Hunan's foreign trade maintained sound and steady growth for the first four months of 2018, according to the customs.

The province's import and export volume topped 81.67 billion yuan (US$12.76 billion) during the January-April period, a 37.1 percent increase year on year.

Exports were 50.76 billion yuan (US$7.93 billion), up 37 percent, while imports were 30.91 billion yuan (US$4.83 billion), up 37.2 percent.

Hong Kong remained Hunan's largest trading partner. Hunan's trade with Hong Kong hit 9.9 billion yuan (US$1.55 billion). Its trade with the United States and South Korea was 9.26 billion yuan (US$1.49 billion) and 4.29 billion yuan (US$670.31 million), up 51.9 percent and 44.1 percent, respectively.

Between January and April, private companies reported 52.87 billion yuan (US$8.26 billion) in foreign trade, up 57.2 percent, accounting for 64.7 percent of the provincial total; foreign-invested companies posted 18.36 billion yuan (US$2.87 billion), up 16.4 percent, accounting for 22.5 percent; the State-owned enterprises scored 10.42 billion yuan (US$1.63 billion), up 2.6 percent, accounting for 12.8 percent.

Electromechanical and high-tech products continued to be major exported items during this period. Exports of electromechanical products reached 22.11 billion yuan (US$3.45 billion), accounting for 43.6 percent of the province's total exports. Exports of high-tech products were 6.44 billion yuan (US$1.01 billion), accounting for 12.7 percent.

Imports of high-tech products surged by 120 percent to be 7.38 billion yuan (US$1.15 billion).
