GDP grows 8 pct to 777.77 bln yuan

Hunan's gross domestic product (GDP) reached 777.77 billion yuan (US$121.53 billion) in the first quarter of 2018, an eight percent increase year on year at comparable prices, according to figures recently issued by Hunan Provincial Bureau of Statistics.

The preliminary verification indicates that the growth is 0.6 percentage points higher than that of the same period of 2017, indicating that the province's economy gets off to a good start.

The value added of primary, secondary and tertiary industries was 49.41 billion yuan (US$ 7.72 billion), 313.1 billion yuan (US$48.92 billion) and 415.25 billion yuan (US$64.88 billion), up 3.7 percent, 7.2 percent and 9.3 percent, respectively.

Dai Leping, the bureau's general statistician and spokesman, said that the main economic indicators are better than expected in the first quarter of this year.

Hunan's economy has recorded improved quality and efficiency, market vitality has been further stimulated and new growth drivers strengthened, according to Dai.

In general, the province's economy showed a steady and sound growth momentum in the first three months.
