Imports of consumer goods keep on rising

Hunan's imports of consumer goods kept a year-on-year growth for the 14th month in a row in February, according to statistics from Changsha Customs District.

Statistics show that in the first two month of 2018, the province imported 1.2 billion yuan (US$187.5 million) worth of consumer goods, up two folds over the same period last year.

During the January-February period, Hunan imported 420 million yuan (US$65.63 million) worth of consumer goods from the European Union, up three folds year on year, accounting for 34.9 percent of the provincial total. Imports from the Netherlands, New Zealand the United States were 210 million yuan (US$32.81 million), 180 million yuan (US$28.13 million) and 100 million yuan (US$15.63 million), respectively.

Meat products, passenger vehicles and electronic appliances were the top three most imported items. Imports of meat products hit 390 million yuan (US$60.94 million), up 1.9 folds, accounting for 32.9 percent of the provincial total. Imports of cosmetic products stood at 50 million yuan (US$7.81 million), up 11.9 folds. Imports of passenger vehicles went up by 8.6 folds.
