Hunan's foreign trade surges

Hunan's import and export volume topped 37.79 billion yuan (US$5.9 billion) in the first two months of 2018, a 51.1 percent increase year on year, according to customs statistics, rednet.cn reports. 

During the January-February period, Hunan's trade volume with Hong Kong hit 4.47 billion yuan (US$698.43 million), down 2.6 percent. Its trade with the United States, Japan, the EU and the ASEAN countries were 4.21 billion yuan (US$657.81 million), 1.99 billion yuan (US$310.94 million), 5.04 billion yuan (US$787.5 million) and 4.89 billion yuan (US$764.06 million), up 84.6 percent, 43.8 percent, 96.2 percent and 110 percent, respectively.

Electromechanical and high-tech products continued to be major imported and exported items during this period. Exports of electromechanical products increased by 44.9 percent to 10.25 billion yuan (US$1.6 billion), accounting for more than 40 percent of the province's total exports. Exports of high-tech products surged by 25.5 percent to 3.06 billion yuan (US$478.13 million). Exports of traditional labor-intensive products reached 5.03 billion yuan (US$785.94 million).

Imports of electromechanical products accounted for more than 40 percent of the total imports. Imports of high-tech products surged by 82.5 percent.
