Statistics from Changsha Customs District show that Hunan's trade volume with France reached 1.53 billion yuan in the first eleven months of 2017, a 45.5 percent increase year on year.

During the January-November period, exports were 1.22 billion yuan, up 59.5 percent, and imports were 310 million yuan, up 8.3 percent.

Electromechanical products, garment and cultural products are the major goods exported during this period. Electromechanical products dominated the province's imports.

Imports of agricultural products saw a substantial growth, surging by 58.1 percent to 64.19 million yuan.

The province has developed close ties with France in various areas over the past years.

In October 2017, the Pilote Group (GP SAS) and Hunan Leopaard Motors Co. Ltd signed an agreement to set up a joint venture in Changsha. The company, Hunan RV Pilote Co. Ltd, is expected to produce and sell 500 recreational vehicles (RVs) in 2018. The number will exceed 3,000 in 2020.
