Changsha, capital city of Hunan Province, launched construction on its first "sponge park" on Jan. 4, according to the local government.

Jingtang Park, located by the side of Guitang River in Yuhua District, will be unveiled in 2019 as a demonstrative version 4.0 project for construction of "sponge cities" which set up systems to store, purify and resuse rain water.

The 2.3-kilometer-long park will stretch from Xiangzhang Road to Laodong Road, covering a land area of around 25 hectares.

The sponge infrastructure within the boundary of the park will be able to capture and reuse 20,000 cubic meters of wastewater.

The park will boast a 600-meter-long LED sky screen, the largest of its kind in the world.
