Construction on the new venue of Hunan Library was launched in Xiangjiang New Area of Changsha, capital city of Hunan Province, on Dec. 28, 2017.

The new venue, which has a planned construction area of 106,000 square meters, will be put into use in 2021.

The new venue, located by the side of Meixi Lake, will be developed into a leading provincial-level library in China. It will become a center for development and utilization of Hunan's digital cultural resources, a center for collection, protection, research, exhibition and services of Hunan's ancient books and local documents, a center for academic exchanges and discussion and a center offering public cultural services to Xiangjiang New Area and its neighboring areas.

The old venue on Shaoshan Road will mainly serve readers in the downtown area for purposes of book lending, lectures, exhibitions, social education and training.
