Hunan celebrated the province's one-millionth vehicle rolling off the assembly line at Hunan Leopaard Motor's new production base in Changsha, the provincial capital, on Dec. 24.

The automobile industry has become an important pillar for Hunan's industrial economy since the 1960s when the province produced its first light-duty truck "Dongting 130."

In 2016, the province's auto output value exceeded 200 billion yuan, with complete vehicle sales surpassing 950,000 to bring 112.2 billion yuan in output value.

Presently, Hunan has more than 400 manufacturers above the designated scale that are engaged in production of automobiles, motorcycles and parts.

During the January-November period, the added value of Hunan's industrial enterprises above the designated scale rose 7.1 percent year on year, with the auto manufacturing industry contributing 20.2 percent to this growth.
