As a Culture City of East Asia, Changsha will boost its development by carrying on cultural heritage and strengthening cultural industry, the city's mayor Chen Wenhao said at the Forum on Cooperation between European Capital of Culture (ECOC) and Culture City of East Asia (EACC) in Shanghai on November 14.

This is the first time Changsha, the capital city of Hunan Province, took part in such a high-profile event representing culture cities of East Asia.

Chen, who is also deputy secretary of Changsha Municipal Party Committee, said the city will also benefit its citizens through culture and enhance cultural ties with international cities.

Changsha, a city with a long history of 3,000 years, is well-known as one of the most culturally creative cities in China. It was awarded the title in 2017.

The forum, themed on "Culture and Urban Development: Sustainability and Cooperation," was co-hosted by the Ministry of Culture of China and the Directorate General for Education and Culture of the European Commission.

More than 150 delegates, including mayors, directors of major cultural institutions and cultural experts from relevant culture cities in Europe, China, Japan and South Korea, attended the forum to discuss the positive role played by culture in boosting urban economic prosperity and harmonious development of society.
