The rural poor population in Hunan Province decreased from 7.67 million in 2012 to 3.56 million by the end of 2016, with the peasants' per capita disposable income increasing from 4,376 yuan to 8,370 yuan during the same period, according to a news briefing held by Hunan Provincial Poverty Relief Office on September 27.

A lot of infrastructure projects like airports, railways and highways construction have been completed in poverty-stricken areas of the province since 2012, said Zhang Zhiyong, vice-director of Hunan Provincial Poverty Relief Office at the press conference. All the poor regions have been incorporated into the four-hour economic circle in the province, he added.

A total of 4.36 million poor people have been supplied with safe drinking water in Hunan since 2012. The photovoltaic poverty relief project will be implemented in its poor rural areas by the end of 2019, he said.
