The city of Yiyang, a city in the Dongting Lake area known as the "home of rice and fish," has a total area of 12,144 square kilometers and a population of over 4.3 million.

Yiyang is an industrial-scale producer of food grains, cotton, oil-bearing crops, pigs and other important crops. Its industrial products include ramie clothes, cooking oil, bamboo sleeping mats, preserved duck eggs and antimony products, which sell well in both domestic and international markets.

The local investment environment is being optimized as energy, transport and telecommunications infrastructure has been greatly improved to provide better conditions for economic and social development.

In 2014, the city's GDP hit 125.3 billion yuan, up 10.8 percent over 2013, the growth rate of which was 1.3 percentage points higher than the provincial average and ranked second among all cities in Hunan.
