Xiangxi

Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture is the only autonomous prefecture for national minorities in Hunan. It is inhabited by people of the Tujia, Miao, Hui, Dong and Bai ethnic groups, who constitute 78 percent of the city's total population of 2.9 million.

The autonomous prefecture, which has an area of 15,461 square kilometers, is situated in the Wuling Mountain range. It not only has a beautiful natural landscape, but is also home to large numbers of unique and well-preserved ethnic customs.

Xiangxi enjoys preferential state policies specially formulated for the development of China's western regions. The people of Xiangxi are sure to seize this historical opportunity to accelerate their home's economic and social development.

The prefecture's GDP was 45.7 billion yuan, up 8.3 percent over 2013.
