Chinese water towns apply for world heritage listing

Thirteen ancient water towns in China's Yangtze River region are planning to jointly apply for the UNESCO's world heritage listing, according to China's 13th Five Year Plan.

Of these water towns, eight are located in Jiangsu Province, including Zhouzhuang, four are in Zhejiang Province, including Xitang and Wuzhen, and one in Hunan Province.

Preparations will be complete by the end of next year and the application process is due to be completed by 2017.
